Nowist - Taoist
Words of Wisdom

The following are thoughts, perspectives and meditations based on or from our holistic health publications.

From our HOLISTIC LIVING SERIES on self-mastery and self-empowerment:

Self-Mastery
"One of the greatest keys to self-mastery is giving up your futile efforts to control your external world in favor of taking charge of your internal world."

The Present Moment
"Living in the present moment begins with the full awareness and acceptance that the choices and actions that you take in each NOW determine who you are and what you do with your life."

Changing Your Life
"To change your life, or who and what you are, simply change your choices."

Treasuring The Present Moment
"The average person lets each NOW pass by unrecognized and unappreciated because stale, narrow, habitual behavior makes every NOW look and feel the same. Having no special significance, it doesn't really seem to matter that one NOW after another is frittered away on activities the person doesn't particularly care about or enjoy. In contrast, the Nowist fills each precious present moment with purposeful opportunities and possibilities that generate lots of natural enthusiasm, determination, excitement and enjoyment."

Seriousness
"To the Nowist, seriousness is simply ineffective, self-defeating mental posturing that has absolutely no merit. Its only effect is to suck all the fun and joy from life while interfering with a person's natural abilities and intuition."

Goals
"To the Nowist, every outcome, good or bad, is simply a turning point in the process. It's but a temporary moment in time that simply reveals your present status and gives some indication of your progress or performance. To give it any more relevance diverts attention away from having a positive impact on what comes next."

The Status Quo
"The more your life is filled with the status quo, the more you develop an "expectation of sameness." The greater your expectation of sameness, the more your mind shuts off to seeing opportunities and possibilities. The fewer opportunities and possibilities you see and seize, the more you become mired in the status quo."

Fresh Start
"The NOW is your chance to start fresh, starting from wherever you want to start from, taking along whatever you want to take with you, and leaving whatever you don't want behind. This NOW and every NOW offers that promise."

Planning
"If you don't know how and when you are going to do something, there isn't a process. It's only a wish."

Surrendering Your Ego
"If you totally surrender your ego, it becomes invulnerable."

Taking Risks
"Purposefully exposing yourself to acceptable levels of fear, doubt and anxiety greatly diminishes their power and influence over you, freeing you to pursue your goals and desires while making you feel totally awake and alive."

Wu Wei
"The Taoist concept of wu wei is often interpreted as 'do nothingness' or 'creative quietude.' To the Nowist, it simply means, 'Get out of your own way.' "

Balance
"Nowists seek to strike a balance between the exciting rapids and the calm, quiet pools of life. Too many rapids jades you to the point that you need mega doses of stimulation to feel awake and alive. Yet, calm, quiet pools eventually turn stagnant."

Meaning and Purpose
"Heartfelt goals and desires give meaning and purpose to your daily life. Without clearly defined goals, there is no process, and, with no process, there is no learning, growing, developing and evolving. Yet, if you fail to stay in charge of your goals, they can sometimes do more harm than good."

Easy-Going, Cavalier Attitude
"When you ease up on yourself, when you stop pressuring and pushing, something almost magical happens. All of the sudden, it's like a fog clears, and, instead of losing your grip on the situation, all of the good things about the process and the goal reappear. Instead of endless doubting and questioning, there's clarity. Instead of tormenting thoughts, there's an eagerness to get back into action. Instead of feeling a burden, there's renewed enthusiasm."

Willpower
"When you consciously choose to honor your most heartfelt goals and desires, the need for willpower is replaced with natural enthusiasm and inspiration."

The Meaning of Everything
"When you let go of your need to affix meaning to everything in your life, you automatically and instantaneously become a happier person, since you are sparing yourself all of the bad news that exists only in your imagination."

Be Who You Want To Be
"Stop becoming the person you want to be and start being who you want to be. Becoming requires the future to unfold; being is the process in this NOW."
